Scholarships

San Diego Tutor was established in 2002 in response to the educational disconnect between college and university expectations compared to what public and private schools are able to teach their students. As colleges and universities raise their educational standards and student to teacher ratios in junior high and high schools increase every year, supplemental help has become a necessity for not only struggling students, but also for advanced students that need extra help to compete.

Due to the increasing competitive nature of the college application process and the emphasis that math and science courses play in the overall GPA and foundation for higher learning, San Diego Tutor primarily focuses on assisting students with math and science courses. We primarily employ top-level University of California, San Diego students or graduates with math and science majors that also have a passion for learning and teaching others how to succeed.

Tutors

San Diego Tutor realizes that mastery of a subject and doing well on tests is not only reliant on the knowledge of the subject itself, but is also dependent on the ability of the student to apply that knowledge.  Because that is such an important concept, all San Diego Tutors are trained by our unique SD Tutor TrainingTM method, which has been proven to be successful and is fully backed by our Money Back Guarantee.

All of our tutors go through a meticulous screening process and are trained according to the San Diego Tutor tutoring guidelines.  Because of the strong alumni tie our Management has to UCSD, we maximize all of UCSD’s resources which enables us to hire the best and brightest students to tutor our clients.  That is one of our most significant competitive advantages.  We believe that the tutor is the fundamental building block in helping students succeed and we take the selection and training of our tutors very seriously.

Scholarship Program

San Diego Tutor realizes that not all families will be able to afford supplemental tutoring for their child.  In response to the increasing need for educational help, San Diego Tutor has put together a scholarship program for families with challenging household incomes.  Check out our Scholarship link for more details.

The Management Team

Dennis Adelpour, MBA – San Diego Tutor Director

BS Biochemistry and Cell Biology – University of California, San Diego

Masters of Business Administration – San Diego State University

Dennis Adelpour started his tutoring career early in high school helping students with subjects of math and science.  To help pay for his education at UCSD, Dennis started working for UCSD’s prestigious tutoring center, OASIS.  He started by tutoring high level math and science.  He then became one of the organizations head Organic Chemistry tutors preparing lesson plans and mentoring other tutors.  Dennis became in such high demand that he started to tutor students privately, outside of OASIS.  Graduating from UCSD in the top of his class in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Dennis recognized how important and effective his tutoring philosophy was and wanted to help students in the San Diego area achieve their academic goals.  Starting with one student and multiplying almost weekly, Dennis created San Diego Tutor to help fill the void which public and private schools are unable to fill today.  Dennis felt he needed to supplement his tutoring knowledge and experience with a formal education in business.  Dennis earned his MBA from the prestigious San Diego State University Business School in 2006.  With the combination of an impressive science background from a top university, coupled with a savvy business sense, San Diego Tutor has excelled to truly be San Diego’s Premier Tutoring Organization.
